Process – Citizenship Fingerprinting
If you’re applying for Canadian Citizenship and have received a letter from IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) requesting fingerprints, Lotey Fingerprinting is here to help you complete the process smoothly and efficiently.
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1: Receive a Fingerprint Request
You will first receive a letter or email from IRCC requesting you to submit fingerprints for further background verification.
- Bring this request letter to your appointment—it’s mandatory.
Step 2: Book an Appointment
Lotey Fingerprinting accepts appointments only for all fingerprinting services.
- Call us or use our online booking form to select your preferred time.
- Same-week slots are usually available.
Step 3: Bring Valid ID
On the day of your appointment, please bring:
- Your IRCC request letter
- Two pieces of valid government-issued ID
- E.g., Passport, PR Card, Driver’s License

Step 4: Digital Fingerprinting via Live Scan
Our certified staff will capture your fingerprints using Live Scan biometric scanners.
- The process takes around 10–15 minutes
- No ink involved, clean and efficient
Step 5: Submission to RCMP
We submit your fingerprints electronically to the RCMP, who will then forward the results directly to IRCC.
- You do not need to mail anything yourself
- A confirmation receipt will be provided for your records
Step 6: Wait for IRCC Processing
- If no criminal record is found, IRCC usually receives the report within 5–10 business days
- Processing time may vary based on volume and background check complexity
Important Notes
- We do not receive or share your fingerprint results
- Results go directly from the RCMP to IRCC
- Always keep a copy of your IRCC request letter and receipt from us for your records
