What is Ink and Roll Fingerprinting?

Ink and Roll Fingerprinting is the traditional method of capturing fingerprints using black ink and a fingerprint card. It is required when digital fingerprinting is not accepted—especially for foreign police clearances, international immigration, visas, or certifications outside Canada.

At Lotey Fingerprinting, we follow RCMP-approved standards for ink-based fingerprinting and provide properly completed fingerprint cards ready for submission to international or non-RCMP agencies.

Process – Ink & Roll Fingerprinting

Here’s how we make the process simple and professional for you:

Step 1: Identify the Requirement

Determine whether the organization or government you’re applying to specifically requests ink fingerprinting on an official card (e.g., FBI FD-258, C216-C).

If you’re unsure, bring the letter or instruction page—we’ll help clarify.

Step 2: Book Your Appointment

We offer ink and roll fingerprinting by appointment only to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Call us or use our online booking form.
  • Walk-ins are not accepted.

Please bring:

  • A valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., Passport, PR Card, Driver’s License)
  • Fingerprint Card(s): Our office carries standard FBI (FD-258) and Canadian (C-216-C) fingerprint cards.

  • Passport Photo: If your fingerprint card requires a photo, please bring a passport-sized picture

Step 4: Fingerprint Capture

Our technician will:

  • Guide you through proper hand positioning
  • Roll each finger using RCMP-approved ink
  • Ensure high clarity and smudge-free results

Multiple sets can be done on request.

Step 5: Receive Completed Cards

You will receive your completed fingerprint card(s) immediately after the session.

  • We do not submit these to foreign agencies—you will mail them yourself.
  • Envelopes and instruction support available upon request.

Important Notes

  • Please check if your receiving agency requires a specific card format (e.g., FD-258 or C-216-C)
  • Keep a photocopy of your completed card for your records
  • Results are NOT sent to RCMP – Ink and Roll is used for external agencies only
