What is Immigration Fingerprinting?

When is Fingerprinting Required for Immigration?
You may be required to submit fingerprints to RCMP for immigration purposes if:
- You’ve received a biometric request letter from IRCC
- Permanent Residency
- Canadian Citizenship
- Work Permit or Study Permit
- Refugee or Asylum Application
- You are flagged for a background review as part of the immigration process
Process – Immigration Fingerprinting
Step 1: Receive the IRCC Request Letter
IRCC will send you a biometric or fingerprinting request letter asking you to provide digital fingerprints.
- You must bring this letter to your appointment
Step 2: Book Your Appointment
Appointments are required for all fingerprinting services.
Call us or use our online booking system to reserve a convenient time.
On your appointment day, please bring:
- Your IRCC request letter
- Two valid pieces of government-issued ID
(e.g., Passport, PR card, Driver’s License)

Step 4: Live Scan Fingerprinting
Our certified technician will capture your fingerprints electronically using RCMP-approved Live Scan biometric scanners.

Step 5: Secure Submission to RCMP
Your fingerprints are submitted electronically to the RCMP, who then send the background check results directly to IRCC.
You’ll receive a confirmation receipt for your records.

Why did I receive a fingerprint request from IRCC?
IRCC may request fingerprints to complete a background or security check as part of your Permanent Residency, Citizenship, or Work/Study Permit application.
How soon should I complete my fingerprinting after receiving the letter?
You should book your appointment and complete fingerprinting as soon as possible. IRCC letters usually have a strict deadline mentioned in the instructions.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Bring your IRCC fingerprint request letter and two valid IDs, including one government-issued photo ID.
Will I receive the results from the RCMP?
No. The results are sent directly from the RCMP to IRCC. You will receive a receipt from us confirming submission.
I lost my confirmation receipt—can I get another copy?
Yes, we can provide a duplicate of your Document Control Number (DCN) upon request. Please contact our office with your name and appointment date.
